A neighbor courting Laurel who suspects the returned Jack is an impostor. He participates in the Knights of the White Camelia, brutally attacks Joseph, attempts to burn the barn, and orchestrates a legal scheme to frame Jack for fraud and murder. His motive is to marry Laurel and reclaim the town's resources.
