Retired schoolteacher turned letter writer at Rio's Central Station. Initially cynical and untrustworthy, she reluctantly adopts a young boy after his mother dies, steals him back from traffickers, and embarks on a journey to find his father. She eventually reconnects with her humanity, comforts the boy's broken family with a fabricated letter, and returns to Rio, leaving behind a new bond.
