Baron and leader of the crusader forces visiting France. Initially estranged from his son Balian, he reconciles with him during the march to the Holy Land. Mortally wounded by an arrow, he knights Balian at Messina, appoints him Baron of Ibelin, and instructs him to serve the helpless before succumbing to his wound.
Godfrey reveals himself as Balian's estranged father and recruits him.
