A Yale graduate recruited into the CIA, he serves as a field operative in East Berlin under Harvey Torriti. He investigates a Soviet mole, falls for asset Lili, and later participates in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and Bay of Pigs invasion. He ultimately uncovers that his best friend Leo is the mole, confronts him in Moscow, and reflects on the moral ambiguities of the Cold War.
