A poor London laundry worker bullied by her boss and ridiculed by coworkers for loving customer Horace Greensmith. She fabricates a wealthy aristocratic backstory to impress him. After purchasing a collapsed horse named Lavender, she gains patronage from Lady Burke-Cavendish, becomes a personal maid, and eventually reunites with Horace, who now works at the same estate.
