Photographer Ernest Bellocq who documents the women of Storyville. He becomes fixated on Violet, takes her in, and engages in a sexual relationship with her. Though frustrated by her behavior, he eventually proposes to her. At the story climax, he reluctantly allows Violet to leave with her biological family despite his objections.
