A newspaper reporter who receives a promotion thanks to his friend Collins. Assigned as an escort to society columnist Myra Deane, he falls in love with her and buys her a bracelet. After a physical altercation with Myra's lover William Winter results in Winter's accidental death, Marshall turns himself in, is convicted of murder, and sentenced to execution.
