An orphaned young woman evacuated from Northern Ireland to Ireland in 1940. She attracts local attention, shelters RAF pilot Michael after his crash, and they marry. After he is killed by anti-British locals, she becomes pregnant, escapes to a beach to give birth, and is falsely accused of murder, leading to her institutionalization.
