A doctor among the interned Westerners who attempts to intervene during an assassination attempt. He negotiates with his captors to operate on a sick child, helps a fellow captive plan an escape, and initially wrongly blames Rita for the spy's death before learning the truth. He successfully contacts a rescue submarine and returns to evacuate everyone.
