A former famous bull rider recovering from severe physical injuries. He lives at a motel, secretly sleeps with Bernadette, and initially befriends the violent guest Elwood. Unaware of Elwood's crimes, Sam eventually discovers his involvement in the bar shootings and Bernadette's robbery, leading to a fatal confrontation where Sam kills him.
