Amelia's cruel ex-husband recently released from state penitentiary. Historically obsessed with Amelia, he proposed marriage but was attacked on their wedding night. Upon returning to town, he interacts demeaningly with Lymon and reignites conflict with Amelia. He refuses her poisoned grits, publicly defeats Amelia in a violent brawl, and subsequently ransacks her café and destroys her moonshine still alongside Lymon.
Formerly engaged and married, their union ended in immediate violence.
