A veteran sergeant of the Royal Engineers. Initially sidelined due to illness after spiking punch at an engagement party, he later volunteers for a rescue mission to Tantrapur. He creates a diversion at a Thuggee temple, gets captured and tortured, and is ultimately bayoneted in battle before the British reinforcements arrive to defeat the cult.
