Main protagonist. A honest building caretaker in Rome who, facing financial pressure and threats of dismissal, secretly partners with a typographer and a painter to print counterfeit 10,000 lira notes using materials left by a dying tenant. He later attempts to surrender to his son, a revenue officer, to protect his family's honor, only to discover the gang never actually spent the fake money.
