He uses his excavation projects in Nazi Germany as a cover to liberate political prisoners and concentration camp detainees. He orchestrates elaborate disguises, leads a volunteer group of students, and ultimately outsmarts Gestapo traps by exploiting an officer's obsession with Aryan historical myths.
