Going undercover as Richard Galt in Quartzburg, Nevada, he investigates a gold mine suspected of hiding stolen bullion. He befriends Virginia Selton, helps her escape danger, and ultimately assists federal agents in raiding the ranch. He refuses to represent the dying racketeer Selton, choosing justice over money, and eventually reunites with Virginia.
