A wealthy and tyrannical patron who maintains a serf theater on his estate. He attempts to control Anastasia, forces a marriage to retain Andrei as a serf, and initially withholds freedom papers. He is ultimately outsmarted when his pursuers bluff about a change in imperial favor.
