The honorable village elder and father of Janki and Jyoti. He insists on arranging Janki's marriage to Ramu for her own good. After Janki's scandalous elopement, he cuts ties with her. Later, he strongly objects to Ramu performing Janki's last rites, fearing social ostracization, but ultimately respects the sanctity of the act.
