The protagonist brother who initially pursues Molly but falls for her deeply after their wartime reunion. He leads a dangerous artillery mission, takes leave to secretly meet Molly, exchanges a ring and photo with her, and ultimately returns to the front to save his wounded brother Tom, losing his left arm in the process. He finds solace in his brother's final words and walks into the fog with Molly.
