A wandering ronin who arrives at a peasant mill and persuades a samurai to switch sides. He accepts 100 lashes as punishment in a hostage exchange, escapes imprisonment, recovers a lost petition, defeats the master swordsman Ouchi, and spares the corrupt magistrate's life. He ultimately leads the outlaws to an uncertain future.
