A small-time crook and former convict falsely imprisoned by Sergeant McBride. He kidnaps Laurel for ransom, initially using a pipe as a fake gun. Despite his distrust of phonies, he falls for Laurel, helps her cover up the stunt, and abandons the ransom plot.
