Aboriginal labourer's son living in a shack on the Anderson farm. Taught to read by Ed, he dreams of escaping unpaid servitude after being inspired by a newsreel of boxer Lionel Rose and experiencing racial segregation at a cinema. He builds a boxing ring and eventually joins a fairground boxing troupe to seek his fortune.
