King of France and primary rival to the Duke of Burgundy. Initially distrustful, he is impressed by Quentin's audacity and recruits him into his service. A cunning and manipulative ruler, he orchestrates a kidnapping plot to keep Isabelle's strategic lands out of Burgundian hands. He is temporarily arrested by Charles but is exonerated by Quentin, after which he outmaneuvers his rival to secure France's interests and Isabelle's freedom.
