An elderly shipowner on the verge of bankruptcy who secretly secures a loan through shady dealings to fund an investment. His primary goal is to establish an independent financial allowance for his grandchildren, Jock and Phyllis, ensuring his miserly daughter-in-law cannot access the funds. Despite being uncovered and threatened with exposure for his underhanded methods, he ultimately escapes punishment and dies in peace.
