A Danish painter suffering from creative block who is sent to a remote Canadian school to teach art. He agrees to host a mute student to impress Lesley. Over time, he befriends his lodger and discovers his nighttime sleepwalking atrocities, which ironically restore Lars's artistic inspiration and lead him to resume painting.
Lars is driven by a desire to impress Lesley, which initiates his decision to take in Eddie.
