A WWII naval aviator and Caroline's husband who was declared MIA after his plane crashed over enemy territory. Surviving the crash, he joined Filipino guerillas and was ultimately killed by a sniper while heroically rescuing a child. Posthumously awarded the Navy Cross, Silver Star, and Purple Heart, his remains and personal effects are returned to Caroline, finally closing the chapter on his wartime sacrifice.
Caroline and Neil were married before his deployment, forming the central familial bond of the story.
