After his wife's death, he vows to free his homeland from Spanish rule, endures exile and defeat, and leads a historic Andes campaign. He becomes known as 'El Libertador,' dreams of uniting Latin America into Gran Colombia, but faces political betrayal and dies in exile in 1830.
