A former WWI combat pilot struggling with alcoholism who caused a fatal crash in 1932, losing his license. He leaves his young son before heading to South America. Years later, he returns, re-enlists, and ultimately sacrifices his life by swapping places with his son to test a defective aircraft, saving future pilots.
