The archdevil sent to Earth to sabotage peace between Rome and Florence. Disguised as Francesco Cibo, he gambles, seduces, and publicly insults Maddalena to provoke war. He falls in love with her, loses his infernal powers, becomes mortal, and escapes execution to live a human life.
