Protagonist and aspiring writer who plagiarizes a diary to publish his first novel. After gaining fame and dating Alice, he is blackmailed by Vincent and accidentally kills Stanislas. He disposes of the body, writes a new novel, stages his own death in a car crash with Vincent, and survives two years later living anonymously.
