The protagonist, a struggling screenwriter turned storyboard artist in Los Angeles. He reluctantly takes in a homeless young woman named Kat, with whom he develops a turbulent romantic relationship. After helping her avoid working for a pimp and navigating a pregnancy and abortion, he finds inspiration to finish his script following her departure, only to ultimately take her back when she returns.
