The protagonist, a Parisian cabaret performer known on stage as Jean d'Arc. Exiled to Italy, she secretly woos Roger Craig. After a forbidden trip to Paris, she performs to acclaim, makes a deal to return to Italy to save Roger from jail, and accepts his proposal.
