The devoted wife of the magistrate. She learns that her husband's stalled promotion depends on her yielding to the corrupt Resident's advances. She confronts him to beg for his career, inadvertently revealing his plan to appeal to the Governor. During a physical struggle, the Resident is killed by a hidden intruder. Later framed for the murder, she clearly explains the events to her husband and the court, securing her exoneration and saving her husband's future.
