Tough-talking New Yorker and misfit who joins the 69th for WWI glory. Initially arrogant and cowardly, his mistakes cause the deaths of two soldiers, leading to his court-martial. After a near-death experience and witnessing Father Duffy's faith, he redeems himself by operating a mortar and ultimately sacrificing his life to save Sergeant Big Mike Wynn from a grenade.
