Police detective and childhood friend of Martin Rome. He questions Rome in the hospital, despises his criminal turn, and pursues him relentlessly. He warns Tony against crime, gets wounded by Rose during a subway scuffle, arrests Rome at a church, and ultimately shoots the unarmed Rome dead.
