A brash American musician who introduces Francesca to popular music and romance. Their relationship is interrupted by Nicholas, but they reunite years later. Though he initially hides his marital status, he eventually becomes divorced and represents the freedom and happiness Francesca ultimately chooses over her guardian's control.
