A young outsider prostitute chosen to play the Madonna on Good Friday to mock the priest. She accepts the role to symbolically take revenge on the Virgin Mary for her daughter's death. Initially faints during rehearsal, is mistakenly credited with healing a sick boy, and gains temporary reverence. Ultimately exposed by a vengeful local squire, she is attacked and stoned by the outraged villagers.
