A struggling filmmaker and the illegitimate son of fading director Virendra Desai. He faces constant humiliation from his father's legitimate family, lives with his mother Nalini, and falls in love with orphan Rohini. After being expelled from his father's house, he marries Rohini and decides to turn his life struggles into a film. Despite his father's attempts to sabotage it with legal threats and financial pressure, the movie becomes a critical and commercial success, ultimately leading to a public reconciliation with his father.
