A reverend hosting a revival meeting. While delivering his sermon, he is confronted and brutally crucified on his own giant cross by the hooded Atoner. His murder serves as the inciting incident that sets the entire plot in motion and leads to the wrongful conviction of Billy Joe and his accomplices.
