Connor's widower father who struggles with mortgage payments. He initially hesitates to leave Connor but eventually takes a merchant marine job for a $25,000 payout to buy Flash for his son. During his absence, his signing bonus is seized by the bank, forcing his wife to work long hours. He returns to New York just in time to help Connor and Flash.
