Deaf hunchback and bell ringer of Notre Dame Cathedral. Crowned King of Fools, he is forced by Frollo to kidnap Esmeralda but is stopped by Phoebus. After public humiliation, he receives compassion from Esmeralda. He later rescues her from execution by claiming sanctuary, defends the cathedral against Clopin's beggars, and ultimately throws Frollo to his death after stopping the archdeacon's murder attempt.
