A 30-year-old Pripyat firefighter who becomes the central figure of the disaster response. After learning he has a young son with his former lover Olga, he volunteers for a near-suicide mission to manually drain a water reservoir beneath the melting reactor to prevent a catastrophic secondary explosion. He succeeds on the second attempt alongside his teammate Valera, but suffers severe radiation poisoning. He dies in Olga's arms after a brief hospital reunion.
