An experienced cowhand and former gunfighter who mentors Tyrel. He initially joins the brothers on a cattle drive but clashes with Orrin over moral and financial disagreements. After losing a sheriff election due to political interference, he descends into alcoholism and hostility. He ultimately faces Tyrel in a final confrontation and is killed by him.
