Protagonist and successful businessman who relocates to San Francisco. He befriends a lost girl named Jane and marries her single mother, Liz. After Liz's death from cancer, he grieves but builds a new life in Napa with Jane, his son Alexander, and a new partner, Molly. He fiercely defends Jane against kidnapping and custody battles, ultimately opening a store named "Fine Things" and earning Jane's trust as a father figure.
