Protagonist. A conscientious surgeon with a dangerous passion for flying. After a fatal crash leads to hospital probation, he becomes a hobo and road crew worker. He later returns to aviation as a mechanic and is appointed pilot of an aerial ambulance. He ultimately assists his injured father at a train crash.
