Promoted for assisting Lincoln in arranging a peace treaty with the Acoma tribe. Arrested by the racist Col. McComb, he later takes command, halts regional travel, and leads an escort for civilians. He confronts Cherry's selfishness and ultimately dies during a final Indian uprising.
