Major Theodore 'Ted' Brice is a reconnaissance pilot who survives a plane crash in German-occupied Belgium. He is taken in by the Daussois household, recovers, and plans to retrieve a book of codes from the guarded aircraft. He develops a romantic relationship with Claire, but his mission and affair lead to tragic consequences after Henri's betrayal.
