An upright and idealistic young lawyer who refuses to defend his wealthy relatives' son in the murder trial of union leader Johnny. Instead, he prosecutes the case, facing severe professional backlash, a manipulative divorce notice, and public humiliation. Ultimately, overwhelmed by systemic injustice, he takes his own life.
