The protagonist, a rebellious cattleman's son. After his father is murdered by bandit Lucero, he is wrongfully accused of the crime. To seek revenge, he infiltrates Lucero's gang, gains the bandit's trust, and eventually tracks down the wealthy traitor from Ronda who supplies stagecoach intelligence to the outlaws.
Lucero's crime makes him Juan Pablo's central personal enemy.
