A 76-year-old impoverished, eccentric woman living in a ground-floor flat who hears voices. After finding stolen money hidden by her son, she is kidnapped and robbed, contracts pneumonia, and recovers in a hospital under the care of medical and social workers. Her estranged husband briefly returns but abandons her again, leaving her to resume her isolated life as the whisperers return.
