Mary's stern father and an Admiral. He disapproves of Willie and orchestrates Mary's return to England. He initially cuts off financial support and takes Mary back when Willie surrenders, predicting their failure. Later, he reluctantly permits Willie to visit Mary when she becomes gravely ill, ultimately tolerating their reunion.
